The town of Soligorsk is separated by 130 km from the capital town of Belarus Minsk. It is located in the south of Minsk region. The village of Chizhevichi with its Most Holy Virgin Protection church (founded in 1808) is in the vicinity of Soligorsk. The town of Soligorsk is one of the youngest Belarusian towns. In was founded in 1958 as a settlement for shaft-mining workers of the first potassium-salt enterprise which rose on the site of the village of Vishnevka. At present it is a big industrial mining place, its population counts 109, 000.
The history of orthodox churches of this place is divided into two periods. The first period begins from the day of foundation of Most Holy Virgin Protection church in the village of Chizhevichi up to the present. The second period begins from the day of the registration of the congregation in honour of the Nativity of Jesus Christ to the present. Since 1990s these two congregations have been interacting as a unit. The congregation is led by Protopriest Nikolay Rozov.
In 1993 on the initiative of Protopriest Nikolay Rozov, the parishioners of Chizhevichi (Soligorsk) Most Holy Virgin Protection Church and the faithful of the town and also on the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Filaret the congregation in honour of the Nativity of Jesus Christ was registered in Minsk regional executive committee.
On June 7, 1994 after the Divine Liturgy served by His Eminence Metropolitan Filaret with concelebrating by the clergy of Soligorsk region the Procession with the Cross was performed from Most Holy Virgin Protection Church in the village of Chizhevichi to the centre of the town of Soligorsk. The consecration of the place took place and the Cross was erected in the place for the church complex to be built.
The design of the church complex has been developed. It includes three high temples: in honour of the Nativity of Jesus Christ, an adjacent baptismal temple in honour of the Nativity of Most Holy Mother of God, an above-gates bell tower, a charity house and an administrative priest house. In 1998 Metropolitan Filaret laid the capsule into the foundation with the evidence to acknowledge the beginning construction of the Nativity of Most Holy Mother of God church.
In 2000 in honour of the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Jesus Christ His Eminence Metropolitan Filaret consecrated the new-built church in honour of the Nativity of Most Holy Mother of God.
It is designed in the shape of the equilateral cross. The church is made of bricks, plastered and painted white. There is a baptismal room on the ground floor; this room is also used for the lessons of Sunday school. Here you can also find the priest’s office, a library and other services. There is a balcony in the shape of semicircle around the church going from and to altar part, which is the place for the choir. The Iconostasis is new. 10 icons, designed in the studios of Sofrino church factory and faced with golden framework, are arranged into three circles. The bell tower is made from metal and has the shape of the temple dome, cross-topped. The bell tower has 5 bells weighing from 18 to 80kg.
The essential part of the church is the functioning library, Sunday school with 120 pupils, sisterhood (52 sisters) in honour of Kseniya of Petersburg, brotherhood in honour of the holy new martyr Ioann Pankratovich (the local sacred held saint).
